Get ready for your healthy-eating-but-also-dessert-loving worlds to be rocked: I’m going to teach you how to make ice cream, but the GUILT FREE kind and I promise it will actually taste good. Ready? Of course you are.
What you’ll need:
- Bananas (at least two, maybe more depending on how many people you’re making the nice cream for)
- Quest protein powder packets (or cocoa powder, or a different kind of protein powder…your preference)
- Milk (regular, almond, doesn’t matter)
- Toppings (I used 1 tablespoon of melted peanut butter and 1 tablespoon of mini chocolate chips)
Step one: Own a food processor, or something close. I have the Ninja Express Chop. It retails for a little over $20 on Amazon, and I think they also sell it at Target. I’ve also heard that some powerful blenders can do the trick, too.
Step two: Peel two bananas, slice, and freeze in a freezer-safe tupperware. You can either freeze them totally and let them thaw a little before blending, or freeze them almost all the way and skip the thaw. Some websites say to let the bananas get really brown and spotty before freezing them. I used normally ripe yellow ones and it came out fine! It took mine about 4-5 hours to freeze almost totally.
Step three: Once your bananas are frozen and ready to be blended, take them out and toss them in your food processor/blender of choice. I tossed portions and blended them a little at a time, but depending on the size of the blender you’re using you can probably just toss them all in at once. Pulse until the bananas become creamy/ almost take on the consistency of ice cream/frozen yogurt.
Step four: Once you’ve added all the frozen banana slices and blended until creamy, add your powder and some milk. I used the Quest chocolate milkshake protein powder and did about a splash of milk at a time and added as I see fit.
Step five: If the powder has blended in smoothly, leaving the banana mixture flavored and no powder to be seen, you’re done! Scoop out into a bowl and top with whatever your heart desires! Fruit, candy, crushed cookies.
That’s it! Seriously, it took me longer to write this post than it will take you to make this “nice” cream. Chopping/freezing the bananas is what takes the longest, but once that’s said and done total prep time is probably 5 minutes tops. For any Weight Watchers members out there, without the toppings my chocolate nice cream came to 1 smartpoint. Yes, you read that right. Only 1! For any non-weight watchers, enjoy! It will totally satisfy your sweet tooth and honestly, it’s pretty filling. I couldn’t finish the whole bowl and I LOVE to eat.
